It will only produce mana if the colour of mana that a land produces is defined. So it won't produce mana if there are only Reflecting Pools in play, but will if someone pays for a Rhystic Cave (because the colour is chosen even if the payment is made). ** Baron Sengir won't get a counter if the damage it deals is all prevented, even if the creature dies due to some other reasons. You've got to suck to be a vampire. ** "Whenever {whatever} regenerates..." means "Whenever the destruction of {whatever} is prevented by a regeneration shield...", not "Whenever a regeneration shield is created around {whatever}..." ** Mana Flare follows the colour of mana to be produced through the life cycle of the mana ability. It knows that the "colour chosen" for Rhystic Cave is for a type of mana, because the Cave says it produces mana of that colour. LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Bob Terrell, asking about Flicker] >Simpe Question: When you Flicker a Kyren Archive, the KA leaves play and comes >back as a new permanent. Does it remember which cards it previously removed >from the game? I'm guessing no. No, it doesn't. >Is the answer the same for Thieves' Auction, which according to the June 6th >Oracle, really does "set aside" all permanents? Thieves' Auction is a Sorcery. ----- [Alex, asking about abilities] >I'm sure that I've read a rule saying that artifact's abilities can't be >used until after the echo has been paid. This rule was true in 5th Edition rules, but was removed, because it was pretty stupid and needlessly complicated. >Mangara's Tomb doesn't leave play when you have drawn all five cards, it >just stays in play with nothing under it. >So can you still keep drawing from it even when there are no cards under it? Yes. >Can you regenerate a creature even when it hasn't been dealt lethal damage? Yes (Although the regeneration shield won't do anything until it is destroyed). ----- [Jeff Jordan, with some replies] > If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck, and quacks like a duck; > I'll call it a duck. Of course, if it's just a cleverly constructed moving 3D image of a duck, then you'd have to call it a ----- [Nick Lynn, asking about Rhystic Cave] >Would a Manabarbs trigger on using Rhystic Cave >a) all the time >b) if it made mana >c) never All the time. It triggers on the ability being announced, not on it actually producing mana. ----- [Thomas Burris, asking about triggered abilities] >I play a rec-sur deck with Ashen Ghouls and Squee and was wondering how the >interaction of these cards works. If I have a ghoul with 3 critter on top of >him, one of which is Squee. Can I get back the Ashen Ghoul and Squee during >my upkeep? Yes. Put Squee's ability onto the Stack, then the Ghoul's. The Ghoul will return to play, then Squee will return to your hand. ----- [Ed Phillips, asking about City of Brass] >You tap your City of Brass for mana. >The effect triggers, you get 1 damage - it goes on the stack, right? >Do you get to use the mana you just tapped for to prevent that damage? Both correct. ----- [Glenn, asking about Story Circle] >Can a Story Circle be used to prevent the damage from a Blastoderm attack? Yes. ----- [Matt Farney, asking about Uphill Battle] >The wording on uphill battle is a little unusual: >Creatures your opponents play come into play tapped. > >Creatures are not played. Creature cards are played. Right? Right, but the wording is just about OK as it is (the creature comes into play tapped, but when it was played it was a creature card). This doesn't affect cards that come into play due to the effect of a spell or ability, just cards that were played. ----- [Rob Allertson, asking two questions] >Will Mana Short counter a spell already on the stack? No, never. >Could someone tell me exactly how the ivory tower works? >What I really need to know is does this ability go on the stack each >upkeep regardless of whether or not I have over 4 cards in my hand? Yes, it does. It only counts the number of cards in your hand when it resolves. ----- [Jimmy Serio, asking about Regeneration] >When you regenerate a creature, does it still retain >all of it's enchantments? Yes. It stays in play, becomes tapped, and has all damage removed from it, but nothing happens to any enchantments on it. >Also, you cannot regenerate a fallen creature already >in a graveyard, right? That's correct. Only before creatures go to the graveyard. >One last question, if I enchanted a card such as >Seraph and enchanted it with Sadistic Glee then maybe >2 creatures blocked the Seraph and the Seraph was >powerful enough to destroy both, would your Seraph get >+2/+2(i THINK sadistic glee gives it +1/+1 for each >creature) and also give you control over each >creature? Yes, that's correct. ----- [Pikachu, asking about timing] >Player A attacks with the Tarpan, and consequentially it dies. He sacs it >to the Claw of Gix's ability. >Player B, as a fast effect, Dark Banishings the Tarpan, because Player A is >at 2 life, and he has a blood pet in play. He does not want Player A to >gain a life. He can't do this. The Tarpan has been sacrificed already (As a cost). It's no longer in play to be Banished. ----- [Ed Phillips, asking about Pestilence] >For things like Pestilence, where you have damage that is the result of >multiple activations of an ability, can you use a CoP "effectively" to >prevent all the damage? You can, but you have to spend mana equal to the number of activations of the ability. >Active player Other player >activate Pest, pass > pass 1 damage is now dealt to all creatures and players (both players passed in order). The other player had to play the CoP ability instead of passing.
