People may or may not receive all the e-mails that have been sent. Hopefully there will be a status report when everything is fixed. SHORT ANSWERS: ======================================================================= ** Whether something is written in capital letters or not is totally, absolutely and completely irrelevant to the card's interpretation. Capitals are used by the editors for various reasons. ** If you have more than one copy of Rhystic Study in play, each one will trigger separately, and mana will have to be paid for each of them. ** Chain Lightning works just fine. It creates a triggered ability when it resolves that looks for the next instance that that Chain Lightning deals damage. LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Gabriel Moris, spotting some treacherous errata] >cards like Treachery (cards that untap lands) have a CIP ability that didn't >trigger when brought to play not from your hand but with Replenish, Academy >Rector, etc. I'm I missing something here? Or were there specific erratum >(is this the plural for errata?) for this cards? Treachery and several other similar cards received errata to not untap lands if they weren't played from players' hands. >If this is the case I think that it is a bit unfair to errata the CIP >ability of the cards when that ability is an advantage but not for the cases >where is a disadvantage: Treachery - Heightened Awareness. The point is that the cards were errataed because they created broken situations. Cards with disadvantages don't create broken situations. ----- [Talon, preaching to a soulsinger (I'm tired, ok:-)] > Player A has an untapped preacher available to him/her and player B has an >untapped rubinia soulsinger in play available to him/her. What happens if >the preacher taps to take over target creature of opponents choice (and >rubinia is the only other creature in play) and then as a response player B >taps rubinia to take over the preacher??? Player B gains control of the Preacher. Player A then gains control of Rubinia with the Preacher. This ends Player B's control of the Preacher, and Player A ends up with a tapped Rubinia and a tapped Preacher. ----- [Gabriel Moris, asking about a M:tG survey] >I have received a mail from Wizards of the Coast telling me that I have been >selected for an online survey about my attendance to DCI sanctioned >tournaments. The survey is developed by SynapseSurveys. Apparently, it's a legitimate survey. I was asked to take it, as was Elaine Ferrao (which was quite amusing, as they sent it to her wizards.com address). I became bored half-way through and gave up on it. ----- [Brent Slade, asking about abilities] > Our exact example was I played an Avalanche Rider. He responded to its >triggered ability with a shock. He feels that since the Avalanche Rider is >not in play when the 'CIP' ability attempts to trigger, then the ability >fizzles. This is not correct. Firstly, the ability has already triggered, and is already on the Stack before he gets a chance to Shock the Riders. Secondly, there is no way to counter an ability by Shocking its source (or removing/altering its source in any other way). > Now, I understand that something similar was possible using the >Disenchant/Dillusion of Grandeur ruling, but I've never heard it used with >creatures. Is there some truth to my friend's claim? This is something different. With Illusions of Grandeur, there are two triggered abilities, and Disenchanting the Illusions in response to the first trigger will kill a player with 20 or less life (because they lose the life first, then die before they can gain the life). ----- [Alex, asking about paying costs] >Can you use a Hickory woodlot with one counter on it and Squirrel Wrangler >so that you sacrifice the woodlot and get the mana from? No. When the Woodlot's ability resolves, you must sacrifice it. So, it won't be around for you to pay the cost of the Wrangler's ability. ----- [Martin Roach, asking about Eureka and Recycle] >Does this Combo work? Or have I missed something out with the wording. >Recycle,Eureka. First play the eureka and use it to put the Recycle in to >play. Then once the recycle is in play, play any other permanent in your >hand, therebye drawing a card which in turn can be played. This means that >assuming U don't end up with a hand full of instants and sorceries U can put >your library in to play? Does this work or would U get stuck on the one land >per turn limit? This doesn't work - Recycle has a triggered ability, which won't go onto the Stack until after Eureka finishes resolving. Also, cards put into play by Eureka will not trigger Recycle, as they are simple put into play, rather than played. (remember, if u play good with eureka, u win) ----- [Marco Viggiano, asking about continuous effects] >Say ... i have a Vintara elephant (4/3 green trample - 3: ~this~ looses >trample till end of turn. Any player can play this ability), i attack with >it, defending player pays the 3 requiered for it to loose trample and i >want to cast TigerClaws on it (enchant critter that can be played any time >you could play an instant, critter gets +1/+1 and trample) to let it >trample again. >should i cast it right after he pays for it to loose trample or before? Neither. You should allow the ability to resolve, then play the Tiger Claws (so that the "lose trample" is timestamped before the "gain trample"). Of course, the opponent can then play {3} more to make it lose Trample again. ----- [Ururam Tururam, asking about Latulla's Orders] >1) Latulla Orders are played (and come into play) when combat damage of > target creature is on the stack; The enchantment will be in play when the damage resolves, it will trigger, and an artifact will be destroyed. >2) Latulla's Orders are destroyed when combat damage of enchanted creature is > on the stack. The enchantment won't be in play when combat damage resolves, so nothing is destroyed. ----- [Johan Sonck, asking about Prophecy] >Question for the NetRep: When will the official Prophecy spoiler be >available on WOTC's website? Or are they assuming there's no need for >it since they put out the Interactive Encyclopedia? I don't know. Should be up there now (the Prophecy Oracle should also go up on the site very soon). ----- [Ingo Warnke, waking up to the possibilities of Reveille Squad] >My suggested solution for this intent would be 'Whenever creatures become >attacking you'. This would, of course, get us summarily executed by the Editing department. See the Rules Team Rulings for the rulings on Reveille Squad. ----- [Josh Davidson, asking about Prophecy] >Are there any new rules (ex. Phasing) for phophecy No. There are no new keyword mechanics in Prophecy. There are the Rhystic spells, and lots of stuff that gives you bonuses for having all tapped lands. ----- [Steve Wollkind, talking about Spiders] >Reading over the Prophesy spoiler, I noticed that the listed text for Rib >Cage Spider lapses back to the older wording "~ can block creatures with >flying" while most modern cards (including Spitting Spider, just 4 cards >down the list) say "~ may block as though it had flying." This is mainly because the people who stole the spoiler didn't bother to take any time to make the card wordings correct. The real wording of Rib Cage Spider is: "Rib Cage Spider may block as though it had flying".
