The reason for this is simple: Would you really want to turn yourself into a frog? LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Irene, asking about the MIE Prophecy patch] >When will WOTC release the Prophecy patch for Magic Interactive Encylopedia? Hmm. I don't know. I'll ask. Probably the same date as the Prophecy release - June 5th. ----- [Patrick Perez, asking about Soul Sculptor] >I Terror the Soul Sculptor. In response, my opponent uses the SS ability >on one of my creatures. When does the effect end? When the Soul Sculptor >leaves play, or when a creature spell is cast? When a creature spell is played, just like the card says. >2. Musician (2U) >{TAP}: Put a music counter of target creature. During that creature's >controllers upkeep, they pay 1 for each music counter on the creature >or destroy the creature. > >Firstly, the official text for this card has changed, but let's assume it >hasn't and we're playing exactly as is stated above. I've tapped this card >to put a music counter on target creature. The musician leaves play >(returned to hand). The counter remains on the target creature, but is the >effect still there? Yes. The effect is independent of the Musician (which is why this card's wording was changed - the payments followed a power-law: 1,4,9,16...). >Secondly, let's assume we use the new text: >{Tap}: Target creature gains "At the beginning of your upkeep, destroy >this creature unless you pay {1}." (This effect doesn't end at end of >turn.) [Oracle 00/02/01] > >The behavior here is different than the original card if the effect ends >when the Musician leaves play (assuming my above two scenarios are correct) >- why is this? Also, in this case the card that leaves play was causing >the effect, not a counter that remains in play. So... the effect ends and >the creature no longer has the ability given to it by the Musician. Is >this true? No. Again, the ability granted to the creature is totally independent of the Musician. The creature has the ability until it dies. ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking three combat questions] >1. Here the situation, I attack with a Force of Nature enchant with a >Ancestral Mask my creature is 16/16 Trample. My opponent block with a >Wall of Sword and with a Mother of rune, the wall become Prot of Green >.. My Force deal 5 damages on the Wall and 11 on him or All the damage >is reduce to zero ?? 5 or more to the Wall, then the remainder (up to 11) on him. >2. I attack my opponent with a White Knight, he block with a Deepwood >Wolverine (1/1) and cast a Giant Grow (+3/+3 until end of turn) To >save my knight i tap his creature with my Icy Manipulator. What happen >... my knight is save of not .... do the effect of tapping a blocking >creature remove it from combat... Tapping or untapping a creature does nothing except make it tapped or untapped. It won't remove it from combat. >3. I attack with a Argothian Wurm my opponent do this : He block with >his Sorceress Queen (put target creature P/T 0/2) and after he use the >ability of his Sorceress Queen to save his Sorceress .... Otherwise he >block a creature and after he reduce is power .... CAN he DO that ???? I assume that he's targeting the Wurm with the Queen's ability, in which case this is perfectly legal - the Wurm will become 0/2, and both it and the Queen will survive. ----- [Michael Schweikert, asking about drawing cards] >When a card reads "...Draw a card at the beginning of next turn" or "...Draw >a card at the beginning of next turn's upkeep" do you draw a card in >addition to the card that you would normally draw? Yes, of course. Your normal draw is just like an effect on the game that reads "At the beginning of your draw step, draw a card." ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking about Arena] >1. With arena can we choose Tapped creature ? Yes. >2. I attack my opponent with 2 Cockatrices. He activated is Arena ... >so i must choose one of the Cockatrices .... he said the arena remove >the cockatrive from the combat ... become the Arena tap the choosen >creature and a tapped creature cannot attack ... Arena won't remove a creature from combat (unless it causes it to be killed, of course), but it can be used before attackers are declared, to tap a creature so that it cannot attack. ----- [Mat Brown, asking about Forgotten Lore] >Where can I read the new wording? Um, in Oracle: |An opponent chooses target card in your graveyard. You may pay G to |have that opponent choose a target not already chosen for Forgotten |Lore. Repeat this process any number of times. Put the last chosen card |in your hand. Yes, this change was done a long time ago. The stated intent was that it would fix the situation by making the payments on resolution. I'll check to see that the current Rules Team actually think that this is what's happened (because the wording is clearly unclear). >> The >> full results of the card text review process will be seen with Invasion. > >There is a new card text review process in place? >Can you give us any details on how the new process differs from the old? The difference is that there is now a process and there wasn't before. The process is: "NetRep reads card, NetRep shouts at R&D, R&D change card to make it work." ----- [David Stroud, asking about Judge Testing] >A rather simple question, which may or may not have been asked before: How >would one go about becoming a Level 1 Judge? I know there is a test >involved, where and when could that be taken? E-mail dcijudge@wizards.com for more details. Or, look at: http://www.wizards.com/dci/judge ----- [Britt Hansen, asking about Local Enchantments] >If I use an Academy Rector to fetch a Treachery could I then put it on a >Mother of Runes with pro:blue? I thought so, and then it would fall off >during check for state-based effects. No, you can't - you can't put an enchantment on an illegal enchantee (just like you can't put the Treachery on a land). >Ingo has a Phyrexian Tower, a Spike Feeder (with one +1/+1 counter) and >a Grizzly Bears (Bear 2/2) in play. Can he, by only using the Phyrexian >Tower, put a counter onto the Grizzly Bears? The answer is yes..is that >because first you announce the Spike Feeders ability, then you tap the >PT and sacrifice SF to get the 2 mana needed? That's correct. You can remove the counter, then sacrifice the Feeder to get the 2 mana to pay the mana cost. ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking a question] >I cast a Lighting Bolt to do 3 damages on a Hypnotic Specter (2/2 black >creature). My opponent have Attrition in and he Sacrifice the Hypotic >Specter to kill one of my creature !! Can he do that ... or the >lighting Bolt is more fast ?? Of course he can do that - there's no such thing as "more fast". He simply announces the Attrition ability in response to the Lightning Bolt.
