LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Bob Terrell, pointing out the error in the Prophecy FAQ] >> Infernal Genesis >> -------------------- >> Q: What happens if a player puts a land card into his or her graveyard >> this way? >> A: Lands don't have a mana cost, so no 1/1 Minion tokens are created. > >BZZZT! Wrong! Lands have a (converted?) mana cost, and it is zero. Remember >Powder Keg? Correct. The person who wrote this will be electronically shot. >If this card says "mana cost", not "converted mana cost", do I put GGGGG >tokens into play for Rushwood Elemental? It says "converted mana cost". >The playtesters are not as demented as your average poster to this list. Well, actually... :-) >No kidding. I think Wizards's goal for the next three sets should be to make >sets that require no errata. I think that should be challenging enough for them. That _is_ our goal. But, I can't guarantee that we'll catch everything. ----- [Ururam Tururam, asking about Spiders] >Canopy Spider text reads 'can block as though it has flying' (Oracle). >Its original text was 'can block creatures with flying'. No we have >Spitting Spider and Rib Cage Spider that 'can block creatures with >flying'. So I have (1) Canopy Spider with Entangler; (2) Spitting >Spider with Entangler. I am attacked by Stone Spirit and Shivan Dragon. >Can I block both of them with my spider in each case?... Nice question. No, you can't. You can block one or the other. Spitting and Rib Cage Spiders have the same wording as Canopy Spider. Don't believe everything you read in an unofficial spoiler list. ----- [Alex, asking about an abbreviated Death Pits of Rath] >If a creature has protection from Black, and Death P. o. R. is in play, does >the creature get destroyed if it is dealt damage from a non-black source? Yes, it will be destroyed. Death Pits of Rath doesn't target the creatures it destroys. ----- [Jeff Jordan, with some frequently asked questions] >> Q: Some cards say to do some effect _unless_ a particular player pays >> some cost. For example, Excise reads, "Remove target attacking >> creature from the game unless its controller pays X." Exactly when >> does X have to be paid? >> A: All "unless" costs are paid when the spell or ability resolves, not >> when it's played. The exception is mana abilities. Because those are >> played and resolve in one step, the cost must be paid immediately. If >> a static ability includes an "unless" cost, it will tell you when the >> cost has to be paid. > >A word of warning, Paul. Some of these appear to be on triggers. >"When Foo, unless Bar do Foobar." Technically by the rules, the >"unless Bar" is a condition that gets evaluated *twice*. This isn't true. Only "If" and similar conditions are evaluated twice. "Unless A does B" is not a condition (look at Masticore). "Unless" stuff only happens on resolution. >> Calming Verse >> -------------------- >> Q: How does this card work? > >> A: If you're tapped out when Calming Verse resolves, you destroy all >> enchantments except the ones you control. If you're not, you destroy >> all enchantments--even your own. > >One difference - your enchantments are destroyed *after* your >opponent's. If he had an Opalescence, Soul Net will not trigger on >his enchantments but not yours. Yes. This is in my FAQ2, which will be posted shortly. >> Elephant Resurgence >> -------------------- >> Q: If more creatures go to graveyards after my opponent and I put the >> Elephant tokens into play, do the tokens readjust their power and >> toughness? >> A: Yes. Their power and toughness can change because the spell gives the >> _tokens_ the ability that determines their power and toughness. If the >> spell determined power and toughness, they would be "locked in" when the >> spell resolved. > >This is supposed to be an "initial" ability, no? So it can set the >"initial" p/t before counters are added? Yes (same as Dracoplasm). >> Search for Survivors >> -------------------- >> Q: Do I return my graveyard to its original order after this spell is >> done resolving? >> A: No. > >Do you conceal the cards when the opponent "picks randomly?" :) Yes. Or, roll a die or something. ----- [Bram Stricker, asking about Worship] >If my opponent attacks with Somnophore, and I activate my forbidding >watchtower to say alive (with worship), can he tap my watchtower and keep it >tapped? Why (not)? Yes. Worship doesn't prevent damage - it just prevents loss of life, so the Somnophore's ability will trigger. It'll stay tapped until the Somnophore leaves play. >Is this the same for a Thornwind Fearies with a Carisma on it? Well, no - the Faeries would have to deal damage to the Watchtower. If you shoot the Watchtower, you'll keep control of it until the Charisma goes away, of course.
