What you need to >> do is to play the Berserker, let it resolve, then play the Remedy. When >> the Remedy resolves, you split the 5 damage prevention shields up as you >> want - in this case, 1 to the Goblin, 4 to the Troops. > >Interestingly, I asked a very similiar question again recently on .rules. I said >that 409.1e implied that you would have to decide *at announcement* of Remedy how >the dp shields are to be distributed. I can't believe I said "When Remedy resolves". I even went and got the card text, said to myself "it works just like Arc Lightning", and then messed up completely. Oh, well. Yes, Bethmo's ruling is wrong. SHORT ANSWERS: ======================================================================= ** Under the Classic Edition (current) rules, you can add something to the Stack at any time you have Priority. This means that you can let something resolve, add more stuff, let some more stuff resolve, and add yet more stuff. LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Luischo, asking about Portal] >Where can I search for a list of all Portal cards. I want a file like the >Oracle. I didnt find in Crystal Keep! You can find all of Portal at the WotC website, from this page: http://www.wizards.com/magic/MTG_Cardsets.asp It has all the text spoilers for all the sets, including Portal stuff. ----- [Michael Kastberg, asking about Bethmo] >With all due respect to Bethmo: >Pretending to be Bethmo - Who Does That? >(I'm not sure Collin would be flatered...) We take turns. It's all very fair. :-) ----- [Bob Terrell, asking about Continuous Effects] >> If you've got a Forest being PTed to a Mountain with a Conversion in >> play, then the Conversion depends on the PT, as the PT changes what the >> Conversion applies to. If it's a Mountain, not a Forest, then Conversion >> doesn't depend on the Phantasmal Terrain, so they're applied in >> timestamp order, and it ends up being a Mountain due to the Phantasmal >> Terrain. > >In other words, you only apply each effect once, right? Well, yes, but it's more than just that. The rules tell you the order that you apply them in (although worrying about this usually just ties people's brains up in knots). ----- [Jacek Malinowski, asking about Endangered Armodon] >When you control a creature with toughness 2 or less, sacrifice ~this~. > >I control EA and its ability triggers and I respond to it by, let's >say, sacrificing creature with 2 toughness, which I happened to >control. Does condition for EA triggered ability is checked again on >resolution? No, the condition is only checked when the ability triggers. It's a state-triggered ability, so it will trigger at any time that you control a creature with 2 or less toughness. It's not checked on resolution, because it doesn't use the word "If...". You still have to sacrifice it. ----- [David Weinlick, asking about the Laccoliths] >> >If you choose to use the optional combat damage of a Laccolith creature, >> >and it is blocked and you elect to asign its damage upon being blocked, >> >> Correction: its ability -triggers- when it's blocked. You decide whether >> to have the ability -deal damage- when it resolves, not when it's first >> put on the stack. > >Does that mean that any prevention effects must be played BEFORE the >player knows whether or not you will use its ability? Yes, that's correct. The Laccolith's abilities do not work in the same way as combat damage. ----- [Michael Kaszubski, asking about sacrificing things] >Can you play Tinker if you do not control any artifacts? No. It reads "As you play Tinker, sacrifice an artifact", so the sacrifice is performed when you announce the Tinker spell. >A similar question applies to Spinal Fluke. Yes, you can do this - the Fluke reads "When Spined Fluke comes into play, sacrifice a creature". This is a triggered ability, which triggers whenever the Fluke comes into play. If there are no other creatures in play when the triggered ability resolves, then you'll have to sacrifice the Fluke. ----- [Dylan Kenny, asking about Forbidden Crypt] >If I have a Forbidden Crypt and I play a spell that gets rid of it, say >rescue, does the spell get removed from the game or has the Crypt left play >before the spell would go to the grave? I looked up the Crypt in the current >rulings but that just made me more confused... The Crypt leaves play before the spell goes to the graveyard, so it won't remove the Rescue from the game. Note that this question was answered in Reply #534 (2 replies ago). ----- [Kaznob Nomra, asking about tournament rules] >D.6 - Card Text To Use > D.6.1 - All DCI tournaments are played as per the most recent text on > cards. This means you play all cards as if they read like the most > recent English language version of the card (plus errata). > [Tournament Rules 10/01/96] > > Is this rule "alive" now? No. It's a very old rule. The official rule is in the DCI Magic Floor Rules: >103.;Card Interpretation > All cards are interpreted using the appropriate card ruling section > of the Oracle card reference. > > In other case, two Oracle have different text about one card. Must we > obey which Oracle? Use the most recent one. ----- [Thomas Burris, asking some questions] >What is the interaction between rapid decay and an academy rector? At a >recent tournement people were using rapid decay to remove the rector from >the game before he could get an enchantment. That's correct. If you don't remove the Rector from the game at the time its ability resolves, you can't search for an enchantment. And, you can't remove it from the game if it's already left the graveyard. >Also I've heard that some cards have been errattaed recently, namely >Eradicate and the Laccoliths. There is no errata on the Laccolith cards. Trap Runner and similar cards have errata to say that they may only be played during the Declare Blockers step, but it's still possible to use a Trap Runner to block a Laccolith. Also, there's no errata on Eradicate either. It can still target animated lands. ----- [Jeff Jordan, asking more CE questions] >Which of these effects should be applied at the initial level? >1A) Target Foo creature is an artifact creature. >1B) All Foo creatures are artifact creatures. >2) Target Foo land is an X/Y artifact creature. >3) Target Foo creature is an enchantment with no abilities. >4) Target Foo land is an enchantment with no abilities. > >So, Paul, exactly what effects do you mean for the statement from >NR533 to apply to? I believe I can make any of them remove p/t, and >so are in a class with Soul Sculptor. It means that only stuff that changes P/T _must_ be applied after counters are applied - I may not have been completely clear last time. All other stuff can be applied whenever necessary (which will usually be after counters are applied except in a couple of situations). All 5 of these effects will be applied before counters and P/T modifiers (although as you say, 1A can no longer exist). ----- [Patrick Schumaker, asking about the Yavimaya Elder] >I decide to use the "May I" trigger and get two basic lands. If I am >correct in thinking that this("may I" trigger) is on the stack, can I cast >an instant before drawing the card from the activation of the Elder? That's correct.
