Worthy Cause has its sacrifice on resolution. It just says "Sacrifice a creature". LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Santeri Inka, asking about damage prevention] >I played a Goblin Berserker and Remedy together, and prevented 1 damage to >keep the Goblin alive. The remaining for I directed to my Standing Troops. >Then I attacked. However, my opponent said that the ST couldn't have the >Remedy because damage hadn't been pointed (directed) yet. What actually is >the correct way to do this? Well, you can't actually ever play two spells together. What you need to do is to play the Berserker, let it resolve, then play the Remedy. When the Remedy resolves, you split the 5 damage prevention shields up as you want - in this case, 1 to the Goblin, 4 to the Troops. There doesn't have to be any damage heading for a creature that you want to protect. >Rule 419.7b and Rule 419.2 seem to conflict. Can anyone help me here? They don't conflict. 419.2 is actually saying the same thing as 419.7b (you don't choose which points of damage will be prevented - the first appropriate points will be prevented). ----- [Darryl Greensill, asking about Banding] >It seems to that me the 6th Edition rules for Banding are well set out >in D'Angelo's already. Will these be adopted as the official rules, >Paul? What is the relationship between D'Angelo's and the official >rules, anyway? If it's in D'Angelo's and it's right, then it's official. In this case, it's in D'Angelo's and it's right, so it's official. >One clarification is needed, I think: "A.7.8 - If any creature blocks a >member of an attacking band, then the creature is also considered to >be<--[typo?] block all other members of that band, even if the creature >could not normally block those other creatures." How does this interact >with triggered effects that trigger on being blocked? F'rinstance, a >Thicket Basilisk blocks a Benalish Hero which is banded with three other >Heroes. Are all four Heroes marked for death? They will all die, yes. ----- [Mat Brown, bringing up rule 418.5c again] >418.5c Whenever one effect depends on another, the independent one is >applied first. If several dependent effects form a loop, or if none >depends on another, they're applied in "timestamp order." (See >Glossary.) >-- End Quote -- > >But in the 00/04/13 update to D'Angelo's General Rulings Summary: >T.8.Ruling.8 - For purposes of reordering effects due to dependencies (as >outlined in Rule T.8.10), the dependent effect moves to after the one it >depends on, not the other way around. For example, if effects A, B, and C >are in play and effect A depends on effect C, then the ordering is B, C, and >then A. [bethmo 99/07/27] > >When asked about this, Paul said in NetRep Reply 510: >I think that this is out of date. I think that we fixed it, but it >appears that it's still listed as "under discussion". I'll ask Beth. > >So I guess it comes down to, Paul, have you gotten an answer on this yet? Is >the ruling out of date, or is 418.5c misleading? I haven't had an official answer back yet. Note that the ruling in D'Angelo's is based on this quote from Bethmo: |I have been interpreting this as A moves to after C (C does not move to |before A). So the ordering is BCA. If A=Crusade, B=Sorceress Queen |ability, and C=Purelace, you end up with a 1/3 creature. Paul felt it |should be the opposite. Why? It's definitely not a definitive statement of what happens. But, since we haven't heard from Bethmo in months, I guess we may never know. I'm keeping on checking this with people who are pretending to be Beth. ----- [Zigurds Gustins, asking about creature enhancements] >'All creatures get +1/+1' >'All lands is +2/+2 green creatures' etc. >Does these spells affect all cards currently in play or just the cards the >caster controls? Unless they say otherwise, they affect all creatures/lands (and note that the one about lands says "All lands are 2/2 green creatures"). >If they affects all cards, then what's the point of the +1/+1 card? If you have more creatures, if your opponent doesn't have any creatures, or if you need to keep your creatures alive from something. ----- [Karl Kovaciny, asking about Lich] >D'Angelo says about Lich, "You cannot pay life, just like any >player at less than one life cannot pay life. You can pay zero >life if they want. See Rule G.19.6. [D'Angelo 98/02/03]" > >So can you use Murderous Betrayal with Lich in play? Paying >half of zero life rounded up is still paying zero. Yes, that's correct. You can Betray creatures as much as you want if you're a Lich. ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking about the Phyrexian Negator] >My friend bolt (lighting Bolt) my Phyrexian Negator could a sacrifice >it with my fallen angel to avoid th effect of the Negator ?? Yes, this is legal. Since the Negator wasn't in play, the Lightning Bolt was Countered.
