I forgot to snip enough of the text - there is no way for the Wave to come back into play if it dies due to its upkeep ability. ** Opalescence/Soul Scupltor: 1. I have Opalescence, Worship and Soul Sculptor in play. If I Soul Sculpt my Worship, it becomes an enchantment with no abilities. This is because neither Opalescence nor Soul Sculptor's ability depend on each other because Opalescence does the same thing whether the Sculptor's ability is applied first or second. So they're applied in timestamp order. 2. I have Opalescence, White Knight and Soul Sculptor in play. If I Soul Sculpt my White Knight, it becomes a 2/2 creature with no abilities. In this case, Opalescence depends on Soul Sculptor's ability, because it cannot apply to the Knight before the Sculptor's ability is applied. SHORT ANSWERS: ======================================================================= ** Banding is still supported by the Classic Edition rules, but it won't be used on any new cards, or any cards currently in the Standard environment. It works in virtually the same way as it did under the 5th Edition rules. ** The keywords for triggered abilities are "When", "Whenever" and "At the...". "If" does not indicate a triggered ability. LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Ron Rabaut, asking about Flash] >Can I Flash an Academy Rector to put out an enchantment from my library? No. Flash has errata to prevent this abuse. It never goes to the graveyard from play. Note that there is an incorrect ruling on Flash in D'Angelo's. ----- [Da Twink Daddy, asking about dependencies] >For example say we a 2 base, I counter, 3 other CEs. Dependancies are as >follows: O3 dp B2, O2 dp O1, O1 dp O3. So, the order will be Base1, Base2, Counter, Other3, Other1, Other2. Continuous Effects can be calculated exactly. There's no need for a "scheme" to work them out. >> Crusade comes into play. Then an Opale. Then a PW ----> becomes a >> creature. The comes a SS, and turns the PW into an Enchatment. Another >> Opale comes into play, and changes it (PW) into a creature. What is >> the power and Toughness of the PW now? The order here is the same as timestamp order. The PW is a 5/5 creature. ----- [Shaun Cranford, asking two questions] >I have an animated Treetop Village in play. I cast Hunting Moa and >choose to place the +1/+1 counter on the village. I declare that it >is the opponent's turn. If I animate the Village during my next >turn's main phase, will it be a 4/4 trampler? Yes. Counters stay on permanents unless they are physically removed. >When the Rej. Chamber has no fade counters on it at the beginning of >my turn (and therefore my upkeep...), can I tap it in response to the >sacrifice effect going on the stack? Yes. ----- [Mario Cravinhos, asking about regeneration] >I have a doubt that is annoying me. If a creature suffer >lethal damage during combat, and it regenerates, does it >deal damage to the blocking/attacking creature? It depends. If it's dealt the damage before combat damage is put onto the Stack, then it won't assign any damage, as it is removed from combat. If it's dealt the damage after combat damage is put onto the Stack, then its damage has already been assigned and nothing will change this. >I have a masticore in play with >4 lands untapped. My opponent attack with a 5/5 creature, >with no abilities. Can I block the creature with masticore, >regenerate it, and then make 1 extra point to kill the >creature? Yes. ----- [Brian Benedict, asking two questions] >1) If I play Touch of Vitae multiple times on a single creature, can >I untap that creature once for each time it gets touched. I want to >use the Touch (on a Priest of Titania) as an infinite mana engine in my >recursive "Green Tide" deck. Yes, you can do this (although you won't be able to get "infinite" mana) >2) The wizards websight has the comprehensive rulebook as of November >1. Is there a more recent version floating around out there? I know >that the April rulings summary made some changes, and there are >probably others. That's the most recent version of the rulebook. We're working on a new version at the moment. ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking about Volrath's Curse] >Here a big probleme. i have my Time Elemental and my friend cast a >Volrath curse on it. To counter is Volrath curse i unsommun my own Time >elemental. but my friend say he can pay to return the Volrath to his >hand. He can't. Since the Curse hasn't come into play yet, he can't play its ability. The Curse will be countered, and will go to the graveyard. ----- [Bob Terrell, with a card idea] >Okay, does this even work? > >Holy Place >2WW (1WW?) >Enchantment >Players may not play any abilities requiring a sacrifice as part of their >activation cost. This card would work (would probably say "...activated abilities..."). Quite a cool idea too. ----- [Damon Rippie, asking about a rule] >406.2c A delayed ability that refers to a particular permanent still >affects it even if the permanent changes characteristics. >EXAMPLE: An ability reading, "At end of turn, destroy that creature" >will destroy the permanent even if it's no longer a creature during the >end of turn step. > >Shouldn't cards that fall under this rule just be reworded to say, "At >end of turn, destroy that permanent." Wouldn't it make more sense? No, because there is no permanent mentioned directly. There's only a creature mentioned directly, so it has to be "that creature". The number of times the above rule is needed is tiny, and rewording the cards would confuse lots of people. ----- [Alessandro Casetto, asking about gaining control] >If i treachery an Elvish Lyrist my opponent can destroy the Treachery with >Lyrist before I control that card? No. You gain control of the Lyrist as soon as the Treachery comes into play. > For me no because when treachery comes >into play I control the Lyrist almost my opponent can disenchant my >treachery before I untap the land but not use the Lyrist Ability. Your opponent can Disenchant it in response to the ability that would untap the lands. The lands will still untap, of course.
