SHORT ANSWERS: ======================================================================= ** The Nemesis theme deck decklists can be found at: http://www.mtgnews.com/tracing/ne/nepcd.shtml ** The creature types "Knight" and "Knights" are the same as far as the rules of Magic are concerned. Naming "Knight" is the same as naming "Knights". ** Rootwater Thief has a triggered ability. It will only trigger once each combat, so you can only use it once each combat. ** Circles of Protection and the "Protection from {wossname}" ability are different. Don't confuse them. ** Foreshadow (and some other cards) have incorrect text in D'Angelo's because of previously incorrect text in Oracle. They're being fixed. ** When you're naming a card, you may only name a card that appears in Oracle (you can name cards that aren't legal in the format, but you must name a real Oracle card). In non-sanctioned tournaments and in fun play if there is a card of that name in your deck, you may name it (so, if you're playing with Unglued cards, you can name Ashnod's Coupon, but you can't name that in a tournament). ** The Classic Edition Rulebook can be found at: http://www.wizards.com/magic/MTG_Rules.asp ** Foil prerelease cards are not considered "Promo Cards" for the purposes of Extended. They're legal if the set that they are from is legal. LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Julius Rodil, asking about Crumbling Sanctuary] >for each damage that would be dealt to a player, that player removes the >top card of his or her library from the game instead. > > does this mean that no damage would be deducted to your life, but >instead just removed the top card of the library instead is this a >replacement effect . That's correct. ----- [KEStOnge, asking about combat] >My opponent attacks with two creatures, one with first strike. I block the >first striker with my Academy Rector and it dies. When it goes to the graveyard, >I search my library for a Treachery. I put it into play on the other attacking >creature (non-first striker). >Am I correct in assuming that my new creature is removed from combat and I do >not take any combat damage from it? That's correct. ----- [Karl Burlingame, asking about abilities] >I have a "Wall of Glare" (can block any number of creatures) enchanted with >"Animate wall" (wall can attack) and "Inviobility" ( Prevent all damage to >enchanted creature) > >My opponent attacks I block with the wall. He then casts "Humble" (Target >creature is a 0/1 with no abilities until end of turn) on my wall. He says >that the effects generated by the Enchantments are nullified by the "Humble" That's not correct. Humble only removes abilities of the creature, which in this case is just the "may block more than one" ability. Inviobility and Animate Wall have their own abilities, which aren't affected by Humble. >I would say that the creature becomes a 0/1 that can attack and all damage >to it is prevented but can only block 1 creature. That's correct. >P.S. I also had a "Spidersilk Armor" (All my creatures get +0/+1 and can >block as though they had flying) in play. So actually an 0/2 wall Actually, you had a 0/1 Wall. Humble changes the Power/Toughness to 0/1, and this is timestamped after the Spidersilk Armor. The Wall goes from 0/6 (before Humble) to 0/1 (after Humble). ----- [Chris Whitcomb, asking about damage prevention and Crumbling Sanctuary] >How would this work with damage prevention/redirection? Would the damage >prevention effect reduce(eliminate) the number of cards *milled*? For >example... >1) you have an appropriate circle/rune in play? >2) you have a Pariah on an opponent's creature? >3) you have one or more Urza's Armors in play? You can choose the order that you do things for these three (assuming you've already created the prevention shield with the CoP). Either have the Pariah deal with the damage, or the Urza's Armors deal with the damage or the Crumbling Sanctuary. ----- [Bob Brobst, asking some questions] >#1. She has enchantment C.O.P. Black in play, >Will this protect against my playing a terror? No. Cards only do what they say they do (this is very important to remember). In this case, the Circle says that it will prevent the next _damage_ that would be dealt to _you_ this turn. So, there's no way it can affect a Terror. >#2. She has enchantment C.O.P. Black in play, >Will this protect against my playing an Enfeeblement -2/-2 on a 2/2 >creature and therfore taking it out? Same answer as above - the CoP can't do this. >#3. (last one) She's attacking with Devout Monk1/1 with Flight >Enchantment attached, I Tap activae Fermerf Archer to deal her monk 4 >damage does the 1 point attacking get through or not? No. You killed the creature before damage was put onto the Stack, so you won't take any damage. ----- [Charles Bienvenue, asking a classic question] >I have in play 2 Royal Assassin and 2 Puppet String, My opponent have 2 clone >(clone in royal) ans 1 Flood > >During my turn my friend tap my 2 royal and kill them with his clone i do the >same in tapping is royal with my puppet and kill them with my royal... I'm not quite sure exactly what you tried to do. What you could have done was this: Your opponent taps both of your Royal Assassins with Flood (this resolves), then taps both of his Clone-O-Assassins to kill your Royal Assassins. You respond by untapping the Assassins with the two Puppet Strings. Now, you can tap your Real Royal Assassins to destroy the Clone-O-Assassins. If you do this, then all four Assassins will be destroyed. Alternatively, you can wait and let the abilities of the Clone-O-Assassins' ability resolve first. In this case, both abilities will be countered, as their targets are illegal on resolution. Then, you can tap your Real Royal Assassins to destroy the Clone-O-Assassins. Your Assassins will live, and the Clone-O-Assassins will die. ----- [Damon Rippie, asking about "becomes blocked"] > Just a quick question. When a creature has an ability that says >"When it becomes blocked do something" that creature can only become >blocked once right? That's correct. > Whereas if it has an ability that says "When it becomes blocked by a >creature do something" it is referring to each time a creature blocks >it and its ability would trigger on each creature right? That's correct. ----- [Hanno, asking about Lifeline] >If I play a Wrath of God with Lifeline in play, do all creatures return at end >EOT or do they all stay in the grave? They'll all return to play. >And another one: If there are two creatures and Lifeline in play, and both >creatures get eliminated in the same turn, but not simultaneously, does the >creature first killed return or stay? I believe it returns, but Im not sure. The creature that's killed first will return. The other one won't. ----- [Ingo Warnke, talking about the February Rulings] >Very Good! Recent discussion (one the same digest as this RTR appeared) has >shown that 410.5 was badly worded and confused things more than it made >things easier (as it was intended to be, IMO). It took us a while (6 months) to persuade the Rules Team that we really didn't want the rule. It's nice to see that they really do listen. >> 4) Some replacement effects "redirect" damage.... > >This explains why the recent Oracle update has no special wordings any longer >for the en-Kor and similiar creatures. Just to confirm: The redirection >shield *is* used up in the process, it just doesn't do anything? That's correct. If there are other shields around, then they will of course be used as well, as the damage is still there. Questions about Johtull Wurm have been referred to the NetRep list. Jeff's questions about Johtull Wurm and the Licids have also been referred to the NetRep list (note that the wording of the Licids has changed in the most recent Oracle). ----- [Karl Burlingame, asking about trample] >if...during combat I block a 7/7 trample creature with a 1/1 then snap my >creature back to my hand before damage is delt, what is the end result. You take 7 damage from the trampler. ----- [Paul, asking about Apes of Rath] > If Apes of Rath attacks, it does not > untap during your next untap phase. > >Does this mean that it does untap during the following untap phase? Um, yes. Why wouldn't it.
