If it's Misdirected, then the person who played it chooses a card from her hand to discard (if there are no appropriate cards, this should be confirmed by a judge). Note that in this case, her opponent will not get to see her hand. SHORT ANSWERS: ======================================================================= ** Flame Wave targets only one player, so it may be Deflected. ** Prerelease tournaments are tournaments that are held one or two weeks before the release of each new set. They are held in most Magic playing countries around the world. Contact your local tournament organiser to find out where your nearest Prerelease will be (the next ones are on the 27th of May, for the Prophecy set). LONG ANSWERS: ======================================================================= [Karl Burlingame, asking about triggered abilities/continuous effects] >Player (A) has a "Humility" in play turning all creatures into 0/1 no >ability creatures. >Player (B) has an "Aether Flash" in play. Which does 1 point of damage to >all creatures as they enter play. >Player (C) has 12 points of life and an "Angelic Chorus" in play (which >gives life equal to creatures toughness as creature comes into play) >Player (C) then casts a "Serra Avatar" which has power and toughness equal >to Player C's life total. The Avatar comes into play as a 1/1 creature (_not_ a 0/1.) AEther Flash and Angelic Chorus go onto the Stack (Chorus first, as it is Player C's turn). The AEther Flash destroys the Avatar - it goes to the graveyard and stays there. Then, you gain 1 life from the Angelic Chorus. ----- [Jester, asking about tokens] >When a certain token died and supposed to be put into a graveyard... it'll >be removed from the game instead.. No (no "instead"). Tokens are removed from the game as a State-Based Effect. This means that things that trigger on creatures going to the graveyard will trigger on creature tokens going to the graveyard too. ----- [David Groman, asking about Null Rod] >According to D'Angelo Null Rod does not affect mana source abilities of >artifacts like Sol Ring or moxes. Why not? You have an out-of-date version of D'Angelo's. The current version has the correct ruling - Null Rod stops activated artifact abilities as well as all others. ----- [Ron Shortt, asking about Unmask] >Does Unmask work like other cards where if it is Misdirected back to me >I can choose not to find a non-land card? No. Unmask does not use the word "search", so you cannot choose to not find a non-land card if there is one there. ----- [Karl Burlingame, asking about Rancor and Order of the Sacred Torch] >If a Racor gets destroyed by a disenchant does it still return to my hand ? Yes. It went to the graveyard from play, so its ability will trigger. >Also,...Once a Creature or Enchantment is in play can it be targeted by an >"Order of the Sacred Torch": Tap and pay 1 life to destroy target Black spell. No - it's not a spell anymore, it's a permanent.. Note that you have a (very) old wording for the Order. Its current wording is "Pay 1 life, {T}: Counter target Black Spell" ----- [Jeff Jordan, asking about Fork] >Hey, Paul, whatever happened to trying to fix Fork? We've nearly finished it. We're working out a few weird wrinkles from the new wording. It's (almost certainly) going to be changed to turn into the spell that it copies on announcement (so that you'll never be able to do anything to a Fork, just to the spell that it becomes). ----- [Rob albertson, asking about Intervene and Ancestral Mask] >The question here, is does intervene counter Ashes to Ashes? Yes, it can. Ashes to Ashes is a spell which targets a creature. If Intervene said "targets a single creature" (in the way that Deflection does), then it would not be possible to target the Ashes to Ashes. >Second question is about the card Ancestral Mask. >This is an enchantment that reads: >Target creature gets +2/+2 for each enchantment in play. "each _other_ enchantment in play". >Now, is this a dynamic ability? There's no such thing as a "dynamic ability". This is a static ability. > Does this enchantment keep increasing >and decreasing when more enchantments come into and leave play? Yes. All abilities like this check continuously to see how many Enchantments/Elves/Saprolings are in play, and the bonus they give is equal to the number at that time. ----- [Mario Cravinhos, asking about Energy Field] >If Planar Void is in play, is Energy Field destroyed when a card is put in >your graveyard? Yes. Both the Void and the Field's abilities trigger when the card goes to your graveyard. Since the Field's ability triggered, it will be sacrificed. (Planar Void does _not_ have a replacement ability) ----- [Misi, asking about Echo] >If I play ticking gnomes, and in my turn i decide not to pay echo, >can i sac the gnomes to ping some target? Yes. There is no rule preventing you from playing its ability then (there was during 5th Edition, but we removed that rule, because it was a pointless restriction). ----- [Court Schuett, asking about Nether Spirit] >Okay, if I have a nether spirit and contamination in play at the beginning >of my turn can I sac in the right order to leave the nether spirit in play >at the end so I can use it for blocking? No. The Nether Spirit won't return to play, because it wasn't in the graveyard at the beginning of your upkeep, so its ability didn't trigger. (If it was in your graveyard, then you could bring it back into play and sacrifice it again) ----- [Erik Omberg, asking about Abeyance] >We were wondering how Abayence works. >WHat does it do? How does it affect other spells? Can it be played in >response to sorceries? instants? creautre abilities? It's an Instant. It can be played in response to any Sorcery-type stuff or any other Instants (just like a normal Instant, because... ...it is a normal Instant). It won't affect anything that it is played in response to, and it won't affect anything that is played in response to it. ----- [Jay Alexander, asking about Planar Void] >_IF_ the Planar Void's wording changed to "Whenever a card GOES to a >graveyard, remove it from the game"... Planar Void's wording will _not_ be changed to this wording, mainly because its current wording works just fine. Of course, if it was changed, then it wouldn't affect the function at all (except that the card would be out-of-template).
